The Bravery to Believe in Yourself: Meet Qimmah Russo

Posted by Ryderwear HQ on

Our team of Ryderwear athletes is as diverse as it is deep. Legends of lifting, new voices in fitness, local heroes and those who lift outside the box - we’ve built a team to motivate and guide any lifter, at any level. We want to bring you (our community) closer to our Ryderwear family, which is why we’re teaming up with our athletes & ambassadors to give you an insight into how they train, their mindset and how they live their lives beyond the gym.

Meet Ryderwear athlete Qimmah Russo, a former basketballer who’s using her unique brand of positivity & relentless work ethic to empower her community to believe in themselves, even when no one else does.

WHAT DOES A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RYDERWEAR ATHLETE LOOK LIKE?
Most of my day is spent training and filming content. I start my day at 7:30AM with some quiet meditation and some water with my dog Nugget, then I grab a protein shake and head to the gym, film some content and get the blood flowing. By 11AM I’m back home and having lunch, then it’s off to the studio to shoot or collaborate with another athlete. Around 3PM I’ll arrive home, have a shower and get ready for either gymnastics lessons or kickboxing class.
HOW DO YOU LIKE TO TRAIN?
I have a pretty hectic schedule, and usually train twice a day (first thing in the morning and again before dinner). Diversity is a big thing for me, so I’ll do something like weights in the morning and then take a class at night for some much-needed variety.

MY DAY ON A PLATE
For breakfast I keep it simple with eggs, fruit and veggies and a smoothie to get started.

After my morning workout I like to have a hearty salad for lunch.

For dinner, I love going out and getting adventurous, but if I end up staying up I’ll have a nice piece of steak with steamed vegetables. I’ll have a scoop of ice cream for dessert if the mood is right.

MY TIPS FOR KEEPING MENTALLY STRONG
As someone who has so much of my life on display, I have to always be on top of my game. As a public figure, any issues I experience are amplified, which can affect how I feel about myself both internally and in terms of my appearance. The most important thing I’ve learned is to take it easy on myself and never lose faith in my abilities. This is how I make it through scrutiny and self-doubt.

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING OUT I’M…
Focusing on my career growth and diversification. This is a huge focus for me right now, as I work with my team to expand into different aspects and explore the things I’m most passionate about. Since positivity has always been a focus on my social media, I always try to work on my mindfulness and mental health awareness as much as possible in my daily life.

MY RYDERWEAR FAVOURITES
When I’m doing my regular training, I have to pick the NKD collection because it gives me so much support and the fabric is amazing.

Around the house I like to keep it lighter in the active lounge ranges, which are also great for doing stretches and bodyweight exercises!
