6 Tips For Keeping Fit On A Budget

Posted by Ryderwear HQ on

We know that times can get tough, and your finances can be stretched in many different directions - that’s life hey. However, your budget shouldn’t mean you have to compromise on your health and fitness goals. So have no fear lifters and fitness fanatics, we’ve collated a list of six budget-friendly alternatives that will help you be your best and won’t break the bank.

1. At-home workouts

If the global COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it was that you can still get in a good sweat session while in the comfort of your own home. From tough bodyweight sessions to cardio in the living room or backyard,  workouts are a great chance for you to flex your creativity muscle. Pick out weighted household objects to clean and press, grab those milk cartons to get those bicep curls in and use that dining chair for your Bulgarian split lunges. The possibilities are endless. Small and relatively cost-effective pieces of equipment such as dumbbells, resistance bands and kettlebells can be a small investment that helps you take your workout to the next level. If you’re stuck for at-home workouts, you’re in luck - we have a bunch of workouts to suit you.

    2. Pre-loved gym equipment

Never be ashamed to hop onto a second-hand equipment website to find a bargain or two on pre-loved gym equipment. This is a budget-friendly solution to getting some serious steals on equipment and saving you lots of cash for the future. There are lots of websites dedicated to second-hand items but just be sure to check out the item before you purchase it to make sure it is in working and safe conditions. Websites such as Facebook Marketplace are a great place to start on your quest for some cheap gym equipment.

    3. Love the outdoors

While the outdoors can be extremely weather dependent (come rain or shine), it can also be a great alternative to a pricey gym membership. Whether it be running, walking or cycling, exercising outside can burn those calories, up your steps and give you some awesome vitamin D intake. Some recreational parks and playgrounds have basic outdoor fitness equipment available for anyone at all stages of fitness to use. Why not grab your mat and some equipment and enjoy your workout in the great outdoors. A change of scenery and a blast of fresh air is also great for mixing up your fitness routine and reducing stress.

    4. Cost-effective online programs

The internet is such a vast, deep hole of all things fitness and gains friendly. There are various cheap and effective online programs that will keep you in shape and challenge you to be the best. Here at Ryderwear we have an online training app to help you push yourself and take your training to the next level.

    5. Snag yourself a buddy with a gym membership

We all know how expensive some of those bougie gym memberships can be, which are not cohesive to a budget friendly lifestyle. Not to mention the anxiety when it comes to fronting the reception and pulling out of your membership when you realise how much the weekly fee is. However, there is a sneaky solution to this taxing problem. Most gym memberships have the option to invite guests for free during specific days and times. So find that friend of yours that loves hitting the gym and suggest a cheeky partner workout (during free guest hours of course). It’s a win win - keep your gym buddy accountable and utilise the facilities and equipment while you can. You can even suggest this gym buddy workout next time you tag along to the gym wear and leggings with your generous friend.

    6. Meal plan and prep

If you’re on a budget, ditch the pre-packaged ready made meals and do a big sunday weekly meal prep. The effort will be worth financial gain in the end I promise. You can also tailor the meals to your goals, budget and tastebuds. Skip those pricey lunches on your workbreak and indulge in a nice homemade and cheap meal.
